ABOUT THE JOB
An exciting opportunity to join our team as an Unqualified Practitioner, working in our pre-school
(FS1) unit. This role would be perfect for someone that hasn’t worked in childcare for a few
years, or are simply looking to start.
You must genuinely enjoy being with children and have a warm, caring and positive nature. A
good sense of humour and a willingness to self-improve and develop your childcare skills is a
must! If you are passionate about working with children and inspiring them to achieve their full

Essential & Desirable Criteria for the Role

Essential
• Paediatric First Aid or undertake Paediatric First Aid training once recruited into the role
• Extensive working knowledge of the EYFS, the curiosity approach (desirable) and in the
moment planning
• Extensive Knowledge of child development
• Knowledge and proven practical experience of implementing good quality learning
opportunities
• An excellent working knowledge, understanding, and a commitment in working to the
principles of Equality of Opportunity and how to support children with learning difficulties
and disabilities in accordance with statutory requirements of the EYFS (DfE 2017)
• A flexible approach to working in partnership with external agencies and other
professionals in the community.
• Good organisational skills, including the ability to produce reports for multi-agency teams.
• You must undergo and pass as security & police check. If you are found successful, you will
be requested to provide a Clean Criminal Record and a Sex Offenders Certificate issued by

the Republic of Cyprus. For UKFMs that will be found successful on this advert and who
have lived on island for longer than 18 months, will be requested to provide a Clean Criminal

and Barring Service (DBS).

• Candidates must complete the Self Declaration form related to criminal convictions
background. Any information disclosed on the Self Declaration form will not automatically
disqualify a candidate, the information will be assessed on a case-by-case basis and
considering that the role will be working with children and vulnerable adults.
• Awareness of Data Protection practices and importance to protect the personal information
of children and vulnerable adults.
• A good knowledge of office-based IT is needed, including Microsoft Office packages (Word,
Excel, Outlook) and electronic filing practices.
• The ability to communicate in English both verbally and in writing is an essential part of this
role.
• Hold a full driving licence and be prepared to self-drive an MT vehicle (prepared to maintain
or obtain FMT600 or MyDrive) across WSBA and ESBA or occasionally in the Republic of
Cyprus

Brief Description of Role
The Key person will model and share best practice with all setting staff to help ensure a high
standard of welfare, learning and development for the children and their families.
Responsible to
Episkopi Primary School Leadership Team and Early Years Manager
Priorities (list in order)
• Promoting safeguarding the welfare of children and/or vulnerable persons within their
role. The Key person will Safeguard children in accordance with statutory legislation
and the British Forces Cyprus Safeguarding children’s Board and the statutory
framework of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) (Department for Education
(DfE) September 2017).
• To support the leadership team and staff to ensure Early Years Policies and
Procedures are adhered to.
• To work with the leadership team to ensure all personnel within the setting undertake
Induction Training, Essential EYFS Training, and Nationally Accredited Training and
continue their Professional Development by attending training as directed by the
leadership team.
• To support and provide experiences which are appropriate for the children’s age and
stage of development in accordance with the early years outcomes and early learning
goals (DfE October 2014 (revised)

staff meetings and attend regular team meetings to discuss the needs

keeping them informed about their child’s development and interests.

• Strengthen an open culture of communication between staff, parents
and families to ensure children achieve the five outcomes of the Every
Child Matters (Department for Education and Skills (DfES 2004)). 10%
• Undertake routine tasks, for example, cleaning of resources and the
preparation of learning with food activities as determined by the
Nursery Manager/Deputy Nursery Manager.
• Attend training commensurate to the grade and role of the post.

Qualified Key person will commence a programme of continuing

Training/qualifications required for the post
• A working knowledge and understanding of the statutory welfare requirements of the
Early Years Foundation Stage Framework (DfE March 2017).
• An understanding of, and a commitment in working to the principles of Equality and
Diversity and how to support children with learning difficulties and disabilities.
• A commitment to encouraging staff and children to appreciate and value each other’s
similarities and differences and teach them about the diversity in the immediate and
wider community.
• A flexible approach to working in partnership with external agencies and other
professionals in the community.
• Good organisational skills, including the ability to produce reports for multi- agency
teams.
• Being IT literate, including the ability to navigate an Information Management (IM)
