Terms & Conditions of Employment
This is a rolling advert. Successful candidates will be placed on a reserve list depending on their preferences (as stated on the Preference Form) and the outcome of interviews. Selection interviews will take place periodically as vacancies arise, with priority given to earlier applicants.
- Contract Type: Permanent, Fixed Term Appointment, or Zero Hours
- Grade:
- Level 1 Unqualified
- Level 2 Qualified
- (Level determined by qualifications; existing staff retain current terms.)
- Salary:
- Level 1 Unqualified: €12.22/hour + Cost of Living Allowance (COLA)
- Level 2 Qualified: €12.72/hour + COLA
- Hours: Up to 30 hours per week (depending on business needs).
- Location: Queen Berengaria School, Dhekelia
- Candidates should state their preference for Key Stage 1 or Key Stage 2.
- Flexibility required to work in both Key Stages if needed.
- Closing Date: Friday, 24 October 2025 (Midnight, Local Cyprus Time)
Eligibility
Applicants must be UK Family Members with a valid employment status stamp.
Applications from individuals aged 65 or above (normal retirement age) will not be accepted.
Essential Criteria
- Must pass security and police checks.
- A Clean Criminal Record and Sex Offenders Certificate from the Republic of Cyprus are required.
- Must undergo Enhanced DBS check (for those who have lived in the UK within the last 5 years).
- GCSE or equivalent in Maths and English (Grade C or above).
- Proven track record of excellent practice within the last two years.
- For the qualified grade, candidates must hold an STL qualification or equivalent.
- Good knowledge of IT systems, including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and electronic filing.
- Excellent English communication skills (verbal and written).
- References will be required if successful.
- Must be prepared to self-drive an MT vehicle (FMT600) and travel between WSBA/ESBA or within the Republic of Cyprus.
Desirable Criteria
- NVQ Level 3 or equivalent
- First Aid Training
Official Language
The official language of the Sovereign Base Areas is English.

Job Description
Post Title: Learning Support Assistant (LSA)
Reports to: Headteacher & Class Teacher
Role Summary:
Work under the direction of teaching staff to support pupils’ learning, ensuring positive outcomes and inclusive education.
Main Duties
1. Supporting Pupils
- Attend to pupils’ personal needs, welfare, and safety.
- Support access to learning and promote inclusion.
- Encourage independence and positive interaction.
2. Supporting Teachers
- Assist with lesson preparation and classroom organisation.
- Carry out interventions and record pupil progress.
- Help display pupils’ work and maintain records.
- Support classroom behaviour management.
3. Supporting the Curriculum
- Reinforce teacher instructions and lesson objectives.
- Support literacy, numeracy, and ICT activities.
- Maintain classroom equipment and resources.
4. Supporting the School
- Comply with policies on child protection, health & safety, and confidentiality.
- Promote equality and inclusion.
- Participate in meetings, training, and supervision.
- Supervise pupils during breaks, before/after school, and on trips.
Time Allocation:
- Support for pupils: 60%
- Support for teachers: 20%
- Support for curriculum: 15%
- Support for school: 5%
Training / Qualifications Required
Essential:
- GCSE English & Maths (Grade C or above)
- Fluent spoken English
- Proven record of excellent practice within the last two years
- Two professional references
Desirable:
- NVQ Level 3
- First Aid Certification
