Terms & Conditions of Employment
1. Contract Type: Permanent, Full Time – Shift Worker
2. Grade:
- New Recruits: Customs Officer 2
- Old TACOS BFC: Band 7
- Old TACOS SBAA: Grade 4
3. Salary: €20,985 per annum, plus Cost of Living Allowance (COLA)
4. Hours per week: 37 hours (BFC OLD: 36.25 / SBAA OLD: 37.50)
5. Location: Dhekelia, Cyprus
6. Closing Date: Wednesday, 22 October 2025 (Midnight, Local Cyprus Time)
Eligibility
To be eligible for this role, you must be a Cypriot National.
This vacancy is open to internal and external applicants, with priority to internal candidates.
Applications from individuals who have reached or passed the normal retirement age of 65 will not be accepted.
Essential Criteria
- Must undergo and pass a security and police check.
- Successful candidates will need to provide a Clean Criminal Record and Sex Offenders Certificate issued by the Republic of Cyprus.
- Must hold a valid driving licence.
- Good IT knowledge, including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and electronic filing.
- Ability to communicate effectively in English (written and spoken).
- Ability to communicate in either Greek or Turkish.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Must be willing to self-drive an MT vehicle (FMT600 training will be provided if needed).
- Willing to deploy across both Eastern and Western SBAs, and occasionally within the Republic of Cyprus.
- Must complete and pass Personal Safety Training, including handcuffing and baton techniques.
- Must complete and pass Customs & Immigration Core Training.
- References will be required if selected.
Official Language
The official language of the Sovereign Base Areas is English.

Job Description – Customs Officer II
Department: SBA Customs & Immigration, Dhekelia
Type: Operational Law Enforcement
Main Duties:
- Perform Customs and Immigration controls, including flexible deployment on static and mobile patrols.
- Support investigations and operations under SBA Legislation (Immigration, Customs, and Fisheries).
- Detect and report offences, investigate and prepare case files for prosecution.
- Conduct patrols along SBA boundaries, coastline, and crossing points.
- Gather intelligence and contribute to operational planning.
- Engage and cooperate with SBAA, UKBC, military and local authorities.
Work Conditions:
The position is physically demanding and includes day and night shifts, weekends, and public holidays.
Use of personal safety equipment (handcuffs, baton) is mandatory.
